Hotel Whiting

Memory care facility design within an historical preservation building with existing conditions

Redesigning a local historical building known as Hotel Whiting was a historical privilege to learn about.  An on site tour of the building was offered for first hand inspection of the building conditions. There was requirements to work pre-existing conditions to access to specific locations. Determined special locations were such as the elevator bays, restrooms, to consider essential structural support columns, and stairwells. The design concept was to transform this space into a fully staffed memory care facility, and to be residential accommodating to conditions of elderly usage, safely and way finding techniques for mentally impaired individuals. Each department was designed per specific necessities per requirement and user function within the space. A full work up of architectural blueprints drawings were the overall floor plan, furniture plan, reflected ceiling plan, floor finished and paint selections, as well as office equipment items. Following building codes regulations and standard safely codes were also integrated into this design. A creation of a 3D model of a cross section of one of the 4 floors of the design was visual aid during the project presentation and process development of this large project.
